Old Boys vs Burnsville Fire – MASL Matchday Preview

Captain Jon Bisswurm returns for the Old Boys on Sunday against Burnsville Fire

Stegman’s Old Boys make their home MASL debut against Burnsville Fire this Sunday at noon at Edina High School.

The Fire will be a considerably more difficult opponent than Hastings, who the Blues dominated in a 6-1 win last week. The Burnsville club finished fourth in the division last season, and comes into this game with a win against Team Pellicano and a close loss against Barons. With two matches under their belt, and a history in this league, they will be a strong, organized opponent.

Stegman’s made a great start to the MASL, but know that Hastings is one of the weaker teams in the division and that it is time to step up.

“It was a good start, but only that” said Jon Bisswurm from the club’s Minneapolis headquarters. “This match gives us a chance to test our credentials against a top team from last year and to see where we really stand in this division.”

Centerback Nathan Toldt, who has been hugely impressive since joining the club in the close season, and experienced midfielder Daniel Warner will miss out on Sunday’s match.

“Nathan has been sensational” said Dan Hoedeman, the club chairman, “he gives us pace, power and a calmness on the ball. The supporters love him, and I think they’ll only love him more as the season progresses.”

Jon Bisswurm, who missed the opening match with an ankle complaint, and Dan Hoedeman, who has a slight knee knock, should be available to play on Sunday as well.

“There will be some adjustments we need to make” said Bisswurm “since we’ll be without Nathan [Toldt] and we’ll be playing on a large astroturf field. It doesn’t really play to our strengths, but I spent literally nine hours in the FIFA Lab on Monday alone so I have some tricks up my sleeve. We’ll be prepared.”

Al Vo echoed the manager’s comments “I have seen Jon in the FIFA Lab, and he brings incredible focus to the whole thing. My digital replica doesn’t really look like me though, so there are some concerns about attention to detail.”
